What is a Kiwanian?
The name “Kiwanis” means “we
trade” or “we share our talents.” It was coined from an
American Indian expression, Nunc Kee-wanis.
Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through
service to children and communities. Kiwanis clubs take
on humanitarian and civic projects that many public
authorities are not prepared or able to perform. A
typical Kiwanis club plans hands-on projects focusing on
the special needs of the community, such as helping the
elderly, promoting literacy, education or supporting
youth sports.
In addition to attending a
club meeting, Kiwanis members volunteer about two hours
each month for projects involving children or persons in
need. No problem is too big or too small. Why? Because
working together, members achieve what one person cannot
accomplish alone. When you give a child a chance to
learn, experience, dream, and succeed, great things
happen!
Kiwanis clubs and members undertake nearly 150,000
service projects each year, contributing more than $107
million and 6.2 million volunteer service hours.
Together, we’re changing the world, one child and one
community at a time! |
